Video game are played all around the world used for entertainment in addition they are used to act as a stress release. The ethnic issues of video games are the affect they have on peoples opinions and minds for example the way people react to certain situations and opinions of woman and so on.
There are a lot of negatives about video games but these are evened out by the social interaction video games provide.
Violent
video game violence is a massive debate, topics such as video game violence, sexism, gory scenes and so on. This may lead people to believing that playing these kinds of video games can cause a person to be more violent.
Violence in video games is debated on how they affect children and how they can change how children act but this is defended by the age ratings put on games.
Ratings
PEGI age rating system was established to help parents have a good idea which games are suitable for the age of there child but in the end its the parent who makes the decision. the PEGI rating system was launched in summer 2003 and is used all around the world.
Education
Games can also be educational and these are very different games which have two purposes entertainment and educating the user. Educating games are very useful because they are enjoyable yet improve on a child's ability. Games are adapting educational methods in games so they seem more appropriate to parents.
Stereotyping
The video game industry are well known for stereotyping women by amplifying bits of the woman because they know men will like this because they know their main gender target is men. This is seen as bad and this is coming to an end as more women are getting into gaming.
Addiction
Addiction is a problem in the gaming industry with many people getting addicted to games for example World of Warcraft which is like an endless game and people just cant stop playing the game, playing for days on end which can lead to some serious health issues like obesity and with the lack of movement the bones of the person get weaker and more fragile.
Addiction in gaming isn't as much of an issue like drugs because gaming related addiction can be easily helped with with some help.

Addiction in gaming isn't as much of an issue like drugs because gaming related addiction can be easily helped with with some help.
HA3 - Task 5
Contractual Agreement
A contractual agreement is where specific terms between people are promised to do for equal benefit.
An example of a contractual agreement is like you pay a garage to fix your car you pay them £200 pound and they will assure you that you will receive a replacement car and that your car will be returned within a time period, if its not returned by this time they will be breaking the contractual agreement and this can lead to serious consequences within the eyes of the law.
Contractual agreements in gaming can be really serious you will sign a contact of secrecy whenever you are involved in gaming related activity and if you break this contract you can get in some deep trouble.
Contracts are important because they make people feel safe and they feel like they can rely on people because of the safety net that a contract gives them. For example in the gaming industry a huge million dollar company doesn't want their products being leaked on the internet from employees so if they have a contract on them they cant do this.
Employment Contracts
The purpose of this contract is to set forth the terms of your employment this is what the company expects from you and what the company will do for you in return. The game industry employment contract is likely to include clauses about benefits, confidentiality, about inventions, and about not competing with the company during or after employment.
Development
Game publishers often hire game developers to create games for them. A development agreement is a contract that spells out the terms of the development deal.
Terms - This agreement is basically just the timeframe the developer has and what the developer will receive in return for bis services. Also the developer will receive royalty bonus at a certain rate.
Ownership - This is where the publisher or the developer is named
Warranties - This is where the developer has to agree that he wont use anyone else's sources and codes and the publisher has swear that the developer has the right to create this game.
Issues
License Agreements
This is where typically two people agree on set terms for allowing a person to use or sell something.
What's Being Licensed - The contact will state what the person has the rights to do.
Territory - The contact will also state where the rights of use will be allowed for example you can sell a product in a specific area of the world but they don't have the right the sell the product in a other part of the world this will be written specifically.
Term - Most licenses don't last for longer than 1-5 years usually and must be renewed.
NDA and Confidentiality Agreements
Non-Disclosure Agreements, Disclosure Agreements, and Confidentiality Agreements are very similar. Basically this is where the party's will keep there information secret from the public and they will have to assure they will not spread information about the game in development or this will break the agreements made and it will be taken to the court of law.
Collaboration Agreements
This is where parties such as the developers and the publishers share there resources and money and so on the reach a mutual goal.
The basic's of the Collaboration agreement is both parties benefit from each other.

Trends of 2013
Video game voyeurism
Lives streaming and sharing game play was around before 2013 but this was the year where it got some real traction which the website Twitch was ahead off. This was the major year where Live streaming Games got its recognition. YouTube may have played a major part in this.

Virtual reality gets real
2013 was a major year for virtual reality, it was around in 2012 but in 2013 hundreds of developers got their hands on the Rift dev kit and they started making tons of virtual reality games.

Major console makers court independent developers in a big way
This was the year where developers instead of them trying to get console developers to hire them console developers went out to find independent developers to make games for their specific console.
One of the biggest components of this trend is that game developers can self publish and this is great so now they don't have to get a publishing partner.

Selling games before they're done
Selling games before they're done is also known as early access and this is a good and bad thing.
Its good because it helps the developer fund the game getting it out faster.
The bad thing is that this can lead to a game being rushed if the developer gives up on the game after they have received enough money.
Two of the biggest games created using early access is Minecraft and DayZ these two games got huge with millions of people supporting the developers but the difference between the two is that Minecraft was a well developed game but DayZ is just broken, the developers just stopped trying after they received enough money.
Major places to find early access games to support is websites like Kickstarter some off the games even allow donaters to play pre builds of the incomplete game.

Trends of 2014
The flood of Steam
This was the year where steam opened to doors for new possibles for developers like allowing them to use steams very popular platform to post their games.
Valve lowered the standards of games to be allowed to be put on steam this doesn't mean all broken games are allowed to be on the platform but this does mean some broken games would slip through.
The impact of steam's now increased amount of games published on the platform has had a massive impact of smaller developers because games that really stand out don't get that opportunity anymore.
Devaluation of games
This is basically where you get things cheaper or Free.
Most of the biggest company's in the world have started devaluating games through special offers for example Microsoft with the Xbox One they do Games with Gold where you get a Random Game for Fee each month and also get special offers abit like the steam sales where big games from previous weeks go on sale.

YouTube and Developers
YouTube has become a great way for developers to show off their game to a wider audience especially through entertainers who use YouTube as a source of popularity.
Developers now can use popular YouTubers to get a decent amount of publicity.
Building relationships with YouTubers is very important for developers now because if they get someone popular on their side who has Millions of followers the developers will get millions of viwers from the Youtuber wanting the game
Trends of 2015
Mobile Apps
Games on the app store and Google play store have been getting more revenue than ever this year.
Games on the App Store are overall 75% of all income.
Two best selling games on the App store have earned more than 1 million dollars a day during October 2014. Supercell’s Clash of Clans, which is a #1 top grossing game, had an average daily revenue of $1,387,620, and King’s Candy Crush Saga, which is a #2, made $1,097,578 a day.
This is incredible and it takes such a small development team to create these types of games.

HA3 - Task 3
Financial Planning Budgets
Financial planning is very important because it prevents a company or business from running out off money. Financial planning takes brains and foreshadowing skills to predict events fro the future that you will need money for with this in mind you will be prepared for when the time comes and you wont have £100 to pay for a £10,000 job to be done.
Financial planning is also important especially for the developer because they make their money last paying everyone else first fro example the publisher and distributor.
An example of this is Modern Warfare 2 with Infinity Ward being the developer, Activision being the publisher, Royal Mail being the distributor, Game being the retailer. Infinity Ward only makes money once everyone else gets their money first.
Online marketing can lead too some issues as well so their must be planning financially with the issue in mind that the sales of the product you are selling online will be a lot less than a physical product mainly because of the high chance of the product being distributed or free illegally.
Financial planning will basically make your life easier and even get you more recognition from other businesses and company's who get impressed by you planning.
Issues in the gaming industry is the rapid advancement of technology which costs more and more each year this will drive more and more people away from gaming especially with children because they wont be able to afford the new expensive consoles and equipment required.
Micro transactions in full priced games are getting out of hand causing huge financial issues for consumers making it simply to easy to spend over hundreds of pounds on a game that should cost £40 at max.
A reason to have good Financial planning is because you use a lot of money on a big project that if you don't plan properly your project could come to a hault and this could cause a domino effect making connected company's like studios going bankrupt and shutting down.

http://www.conciergewm.com/new/conciergewm/images/financial-planning-process.jpg
Kickstarter
Is a website/company that works to gain funding from supporters of less popular game developers and other people to help get people funding for projects such as upcoming games which the donators will be waiting for. A massive issue with kickstarter is the fact that projects sometimes get too much funding and do a sloppy job of the game. Realizing they cant produce the quality game they were promising they stop caring. The over funding also causes rushing with the game causing bugs which break the game. Kickstarter is good to get unknown companies with a low financial budget the money they need to create a world class product but it doesn't always turn out that way.
This is a poor show of financial planning. Failing to release games on time is still an on going problem in the gaming industry.
Financial planning can really save you some money in the end

Rampage 3: No Mercy
This an example of poor financial planning and advertising. Rampage 3: No mercy was a recently failed start up film posted on Kickstarter to raise funds. The person asking for the funding didn't have good planning just expecting things to happen, asking for too much money and not even giving people a reason to donate. Just on the expectation that the everyone had seen the other two which wasn't many.
The Film only managed to gain €29,000 which is only £21,014 from Kickstarter which is nowhere near his goal of €50,000 so it Failed. It failed mainly because of poor planning but their are other reasons as well for example here their was a lack of advertising for the project and benefits for the donators.

Creative Development
Game Designer
Games Designers/Developers are involved in the creation and production of games. Their work involves either designing or programming.
Game development is a fast moving, multi-billion pound industry which is going up and up.
Making a game can take up to a team of 200 people and up to 3 years of development.
A games designer job title covers allot of area's within the industry for example:

- Programmer
- Audio Engineer
- Artist
- Producer
- Editor
- Designer
- Special effects
Level Designers basically create the interactive architecture for a part of a game, which includes the landscape, buildings and objects.
A level designer will create levels for games and is also required to script in game events for player interaction. If you didn't have the level designer you would have a landcape/World for a player character to run a round and explore.

Lead Artist
Lead artists are responsible for the overall look of the game. They also are in charge of the visual style of the game and all of the visual materials throughout the games development.
Lead artists also manage the art and animation teams.
Lead artists are very important because they control the look of the game arts wise and if you have a bad lead artists you games quality will be bad. If you have a bad lead artist your game will most likely look rubbish.

Technical Artist
The Technical artist job roll is between the artists and programming whilst working on the game.
They ensue art assets can be easily integrated into a game without sacrificing overall artistic visuals or the chosen technical limits of a platform.

Artist
Create the visual elements of a game such as characters, scenery, objects, vehicles, surface textures, clothing, props and so on. They have to design the interface components which is very important they have to make it look nice yet simple to look at to understand. Artists create concept art and story boards which is a great way for them to show their ideas visually in pre production. Without good artists the game will look terrible.

Animator
Animators in the gaming industry are the ones responsible for the portrayal of characters with their movement and behavior.
Basically animators give life to game characters and creatures and they turn something bland and boring into something with grace and beauty, but sometimes animators are applied to other elements such as objects, scenery, vegetation and lots off other environmental effects.

Audio Engineer
The audio engineer in the creator of the game soundtrack this includes background music, sound effects and they also support others with like gunshots, explosions, character voices, spoken instructions and other stuff one thing that i know personally that they do is crowd noise effects this can get you really in the game.
